WORLD RX SEMI-FINALS COMING UP
Sunday 7th of May 2017
Double FIA European Rallycross Supercar Champion Timur Timerzyanov will start on the second row of the grid in semi-final two today, as the third round of the FIA World Rallycross Championship is set to conclude at Hockenheim in Germany.
Timerzyanov was 20th in the Intermediate Classification at round one in Barcelona, but qualified for the semi-finals by being ninth at round two in Portugal, before finishing sixth in the first semi-final. The Russian driver had mixed experiences in the Qualifying races in Hockenheim but is aiming for his first final of the season today. “On Friday I had two clean runs, I won the starts and the races with not so good speed. Yesterday maybe we had better speed but the starts were not so good. Q3 was really bad for me, I got boxed between Timo Schieder and Mattias Ekstrom at the start. I struggled behind them and I finished with 16th time, which dropped me from fifth to tenth. In Q4, Ken Block won the start. I stayed behind him, he drove really nice lines, even though his car put a lot of dust on the track and it was slippery behind him,” explained Timerzyanov.
The STARD driver has a clear strategy for the start and first corner of the semi-final, where the top three finishers progress to the final. “The forecast was maybe for rain today, but we have prepared the cars for dry conditions. We’re planning to have a good start and dive into the first corner inside of the guys in front – that’s my tactic,” he said. “After that we will see, we’ve seen in the past that a lot of fights are coming in the semi-finals where everyone is fighting for the positions and not time. We need to make it into the final and the semi-final is a point where we really need to show our speed.”
