Marklund Motorsport’s 2015 season in the FIA World Rallycross Championship was one of ups and downs, but highlights for the Volkswagen Polo team included a victory and double podium finish, and helping Tommy Rustad to win the Euro RX title.
Finland’s Topi Heikkinen raced at every round of the championship and won at Mettet in Belgium for the second year in a row. He also finished second at the Canadian round of World RX at Trois-Rivieres, where he was joined on the podium by American Top Gear presenter Tanner Foust, who raced at four events with the Marklund team and twice made the final.
Sweden’s PG Andersson raced as team mate to Heikkinen for most of the season. In ten starts he made the final three times, twice after winning semi-finals in Belgium and Norway, but in each final appearance he was forced out with either accident damage or punctures. Heikkinen finished ninth in the overall drivers championship after the final round in Argentina, while Andersson was classified 13th.
After winning four RX Lites Cup events in his debut season in 2015, Norway’s Thomas Bryntesson made his Supercar debut for Marklund Motorsport at the final round of World RX in Argentina and set competitive lap times, but technical problems meant he didn’t make the semi-finals.
Together with HTB Racing, Marklund Motorsport also ran a Polo Supercar for Norway’s Tommy Rustad in Euro RX, and won the title at the final round in Italy.
