Reigning FIA European Rallycross Champion Reinis Nitiss will make his debut for the GRX team in the first round of the FIA World Rallycross Championship at Yas Marina in Abu Dhabi, World RX’s first night race.

Latvia’s Nitiss will join permanent GRX Taneco drivers Niclas Gronholm and Timur Timerzyanov in the first of his selected rounds this season, entered as GRX SET in a third Hyundai i20 Supercar. Nitiss joined his new team mates at the circuit’s launch recently. “I'm really looking forward to competing in the Hyundai i20 for the first time. Combined with the all-new Yas Marina RX track the season opener will be a great and exciting challenge, especially as the first night race,” he explained. “A little while back, I took part in the Abu Dhabi circuit presentation – it looks very interesting and I am sure that there will lots of thrilling action. This will be the first time a rallycross event takes place in the evening and the track will be artificially lit.”

The entry list for round one of the FIA World Rallycross Championship has been released by the FIA today (March 11). A TBA on the permanent entry list of six two-car teams and 16 drivers announced last week, Norway’s Pal Try will join Latvia’s Janis Baumanis by racing the second new Ford Fiesta for Team STARD.

The Abu Dhabi night race will see the semi-finals held as night falls over the Yas Marina circuit, and the final held in the dark, under lights at the famous Formula 1 circuit, for World RX’s first visit to the Middle East.
